The best AI form builders in 2026 are Tally, Jotform, Typeform, Fillout, Google Forms, Paperform, and SurveyMonkey, compared on what their AI can actually do and what's free.
Every form builder now advertises AI, but the feature behind the badge varies quite a bit. Generating a first draft is table stakes in 2026, and all seven do it. What separates them is how far the AI reaches after that, and how much of that reach you keep on a free plan.

Several tools include the assistant for free and then put the branding, spam protection, and redirect settings on a paid tier, so the AI can write your questions but not much else. This guide compares all seven AI form generators on what their AI can actually change, what it costs, and who each one suits.
An AI form builder, sometimes called an AI form generator, is a tool that turns a plain-language description into a working form, with the right questions, field types, logic, and structure already in place. The good ones save you the blank-page problem and the fiddly parts that come after.
To work out what each one can actually do, we asked the assistants themselves. We opened each tool, asked it directly what it could and couldn't change, and then checked those answers against the product and the vendor's own documentation. Two tools couldn't be asked at all: Paperform only has a prompt box in the create flow and won't take follow-up questions, and Google Forms has no assistant to talk to — which is an answer in itself. No single tool wins at everything, so we'll be upfront about where each one shines and where it falls short.
